Thank you so much for taking an interest in Scrap Whispers. We are an scrap-booking inspiration blog with a difference - we run a team game where everyone scrap-lifts a layout that is passed to them.
Do you remember playing the game Telephone (USA) or Chinese Whispers
(UK) when you were growing up? You know, the one where everyone sits in a
circle, and the first person thinks of a phrase, which they whisper in
their neighbour's ear. That person then has to repeat the phrase to the
next in the circle and so on. The whisper gets passed around secretly
person-to-person and eventually the last one has to say
out loud what they have heard. More often than not the phrase at the end is completely
different from the one the group started with, and everyone takes
pleasure in how much it has changed.
Well that's kind of like what Scrap Whispers is.... a scrapbook version
of the game, only it's played by scrap-lifting a layout and passing it
on to someone else in a team.
What IS Scrap-lifting? Scrap-lifting is the art of taking someone else's layout and making it your own using your own photographs and embellishments but copying something about their page, be it the layout, title, or something else. You may choose to flip the layout as you might with a sketch, only use elements of it or copy it completely. Here is a link about Scrap-lifting and Etiquette.
How does it work exactly? Email your name to gh26@sky.com to register your interest to play. You will then be contacted when the next game starts. There may well be a short waiting list, but don't worry, your turn will come.
Each challenge usually runs for around two months and is coordinated by the Scrap Whispers team, but you will only scrap-lift one layout in that time and everything is kept top secret until the "Big Reveal".
When the first person on the list has lifted the original layout (s)he then e-mails a photo of the layout to the team leader, who will pass it to the next person on the team. That person will scrap-lift it and then e-mail her layout back to the team leader to send to the next person in the team and so on. This is where the whisper gets passed around the circle so to speak.
At the end of the two months, we reveal every layout in one go, the out-loud exclamation! At the Big Reveal, everyone finally gets to see the original layout, and then the progression as it got passed around your team.
It is fascinating to see how the layouts change as they move from person to person. When you compare the first and last layouts together you can see so many similarities but also so many differences and that's the fun part! It really is great fun to play and you make some excellent like-minded friends too.
Although your involvement can be just the one LO if you wish, if you want more while you are waiting for your turn, we will also post articles and weekly challenges on the blog for you to read and play along with. These are open to anyone, not just the game players. On occasion there will be prizes up for grabs so keep an eye out for those too!
